The Aura Cardigan is a lightweight, long-sleeved cardigan with set-in sleeves. It's knitted in stocking stitch, using fine silk mohair yarn and larger needles. This gives the fabric a slightly open and airy feel, perfect for layering. The 2x2 ribs and double-knit button bands use multiple strands of yarn held together to add structure to the cardigan.

 

The body is knitted flat in one piece, from the hem upwards. When the armholes are reached the stitches are split into three, working the rest of the left front, back and right front separately. The shoulder seams are joined, and stitches are picked up and knitted to form the neck trim and button bands. We recommend the sleeves to be knit flat and seamed to the armholes, but instructions are also provided to pick up stitches and knit the sleeves top down in the round. 

 

This pattern provides easy to follow detailed instructions using the following techniques: 

Optional Italian cast on and cast off, knit, purl, knit through the back loop, slip stitch, decreasing, increasing, picking up stitches, cast off, invisible seaming, double knit button band, optional short rows.

Skill Level: Intermediate. 

 

Sizing: 8 sizes (XS-4X) see size guide. Alice wears size 2 (S).

 

Yarn: Lace weight yarn approx 25g/210m.

You will need approx 91g/764m [100g/840m, 110g/924m, 125g/1050m, 135g/1134m, 145g/1218m, 160g/1344m, 170g/1428m].

 

For the pink cardigan we have used: 

4 [4, 5, 5, 6, 6, 7, 7] balls of Majo Garn Pearl Mohair in Dusty Rose - 70% Super Kid Mohair, 30% Silk. (210m/230yds per 25g ball.)

 

For the grey cardigan, we used Knitting for Olive Soft Silk Mohair in Deep Petroleum Blue. 

Alternative yarn suggestions: Gepard Garn Kid Seta, Drops Kid-Silk, Isager Silk Mohair, Önling No 10 Silk Mohair.

 

Suggested Needle Size: 

3mm/US 2.5 circular knitting needles, length 80-100cm/32-40''.

6.5mm/US 10.5 circular knitting needles, length 80-100cm/32-40''.

 

Gauge:  Stocking Stitch using 6.5mm/US 10.5 knitting needles:

10cm/4'' x 10cm/4'' = 14sts x 19 rows
