Knitted in an open rib stitch, the Luna Sweater uses two needle sizes to create an open yet structured fabric. It’s relaxed dolman sleeves give a slouchy and comfortable fit, while the tight 1x1 rib trims add structure to the high neck, hem and cuffs.

 

It’s worked flat in one piece from the front rib hem to the back rib hem with neck and cuff trims picked up and knitted in the round.

 

The pattern provides easy-to-follow detailed instructions using the following techniques:

Italian cast-on, knitting flat, knitting in the round, knit, purl, knit through the back loop, cable cast-on, decreasing, increasing, picking up stitches, cast-off, Italian cast-off, invisible seaming

 

Skill Level: Easy/Intermediate.

 

Sizing: 8 sizes (XS-4X) see size guide. Alice wears size 2 (S).

 

Yarn: Aran/worsted weight yarn with a standard stocking stitch tension of approx. 18sts. This is used for the rib trims and the open rib stitch. You will need approx. 825m [875m, 962m, 1025m, 1112m, 1175m, 1225m, 1287m].

For the open rib stitch, the Aran/Worsted weight yarn is held together with 1 strand of fingering weight yarn. You will need approx. 593m [630m, 693m, 743m, 798m, 840m, 882m, 924m].

 

For the blue sweater we used: 

7 [7, 8, 9, 9, 10, 10, 11] balls of Knitting for Olive Heavy Merino in Poppy Blue - 100% Merino Wool. (125m/137yds per 50g ball.)
Alternative yarn suggestions: Quince & Co Lark, Rico Soft Merino Aran, Lang Yarns Merino +, Drops Big Merino.

3 [3, 4, 4, 4, 4, 5, 5] balls of Drops Flora in Off White 01 - 65% Wool, 35% Alpaca. (210m/230yds per 50g ball.)

For the grey sweater we used Lang Yarns Merino + in colour 270 and Knitting For Olive Merino in deep petroleum blue.

 

Suggested Needles:

3.5mm/US 4 straight or circular knitting needles, length 50-80cm/20-32'' and circular knitting needles, length 40-50cm/16-20''.

5mm/US 8 circular knitting needles, length 100-120cm/40-47''.

10mm/US 15 circular knitting needles, length 100-120cm/40-47''.

 

Gauge: Open rib stitch on 5mm/US 8 and 10mm/US 15 needles:

10cm/4’’ x 10cm/4’’ = 13 stitches x 18 rows
