Mellow Hat - Knitting Pattern
A fun and fast knit, the Mellow Hat is a cosy winter essential. The ties on the ear-flaps give you the option to wear the hat open or tied snug around your neck. It's a great project to experiment with mixing yarns and colours.
With step-by-step, easy-to-follow instructions this pattern uses the following techniques: Long tail cast on, increasing, knit, purl, cable cast on, decreasing, knitting in the round, crochet edging or blanket stitch.
Skill Level: Easy/IntermediateSize: This pattern includes two sizes:
Size 1: to fit head circumference 53-58cm/21-23’’
Size 2: to fit head circumference 58-63cm/23-25’’
Yarn: Any Aran/Worsted weight yarn, 2 strands held together throughout. You may want to use 2 balls of the same colour or 2 contrasting coloured yarns. Airblown yarns work really well like:
2 balls of Lana Grossa Brigitte No.2 - 47% Alpaca, 45% Cotton, 8% Wool. (140m/153yds per 50g skein.)
OR
For a 3-colour mix, use 1 strand of Aran/Worsted weight yarn, 1 strand of DK weight yarn and 1 strand of Lace weight yarn held together throughout. For the blue hat we have used:
1 ball of Lana Grossa Brigitte No.2 - colour 030 cobalt - 47% Alpaca, 45% Cotton, 8% Wool. (140m/153yds per 50g skein.)

1 ball of Drops kid-silk - colour 02 Black - 75% Mohair, 25% Silk. (210m/230yds per 25g skein.)
Suggested Needle Size: 7mm/US 10½ circular needles, length 40-50cm/16’’- 20’’
Gauge: Stocking Stitch with yarn held together:
10cm/4'' x 10cm/4'' = 12sts x 17 rows
