The Outline Sweater is our version of the classic crew neck, it's all about simplicity, ease of wear and construction details. The sweater is knitted flat in two pieces, the front and the back. Each piece starts with a 2x2 rib hem and changes to stocking stitch for the body. The seams are joined using an exposed crochet seam (we have a detailed youtube video to help with this!)

 

This pattern provides easy to follow detailed instructions using the following techniques: 

Long tail cast on, 2x2 rib stitch, stocking stitch, cable cast on, decreasing, cast off, cast off in ribbing, picking up stitches, invisible seaming and crochet slip stitch seam.

Skill Level: Easy. 

 

Sizing: 8 sizes (XS-4X) see size guide. Alice wears size 2 (S).

 

Yarn: Any Aran weight yarn.

You will need approx 510g/1200m [540g/1300m, 580g/1400m, 620g/1500m, 660g/1600m, 700g/1700m, 740g/1800m, 790g/1900m].) For the grey sweater we have used: 

 

10 [11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 15, 16] balls of Quince&Co Lark in sabine - 100% American Wool. (123m/134yds per 50g skein.)

 

Or you can also use 1 strand of any DK weight yarn held together with 1 strand of any Lace weight yarn. For the beige sweater we have used:

 

6 [6, 6, 7, 7, 7, 8, 8] balls of Laxtons Sheepsoft DK in bishopdale - 100% British Wool. (220m/240yds per 100g skein.)

6 [6, 6, 7, 7, 7, 8, 8] balls of Knitting For Olive Soft Silk Mohair, cream. - 70% Mohair, 30% Silk. (224m/246yds per 25g skein.)

 

Suggested Needle/Hook Sizes: 

3.5mm/US 4 knitting needles, these can be straight needles for the hem ribs but you will need circular needles, length 40-50cm/16-20'' for the neck ribbing.

 

5mm/US 8 circular knitting needles, length 100cm/40''. You will be knitting flat on these needles, but need the cord length to work comfortably across your work.

 

5mm crochet hook for joining seams

 

Gauge:  Stocking Stitch using 5mm/US 8 knitting needles:

10cm/4'' x 10cm/4'' = 18sts x 24 rows
